KIEV, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Russian forces carried out a large-scale overnight attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure on Tuesday, Ukraine's Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said.

The strikes targeted eight Ukrainian regions, damaging thermal power plants, combined heat and power stations, and apartment buildings, the minister said on Telegram.

Ukraine's largest private energy company DTEK said the attack, the ninth on its facilities since October 2025, caused significant damage to equipment at its thermal power plants.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said nine people were wounded across the country.

In Kiev, two people were injured, while residential buildings and non-residential buildings were damaged in five districts, said Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

He added that 1,170 apartment buildings in the capital remain without heating.

In the southern Odesa region, more than 50,000 residents were left without electricity following missile and drone strikes, said regional Governor Oleh Kiper.

Ukraine's Air Force said Russia launched 450 drones and 71 hypersonic, ballistic, and cruise missiles. According to preliminary data, the air defense intercepted 412 drones and 38 missiles. ■
