BEIJING, April 13 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday announced a 19-player list for a training camp ahead of the 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup and this year's Asian Games, with overseas-based centers Li Yueru and Han Xu leading the way.
Li has accepted a qualifying offer from the WNBA side Dallas Wings, while Han, who played with the Perth Lynx in the Women's National Basketball League in Australia last season, is seeking a return to the WNBA.
Other selected players included Yang Shuyu, Wang Siyu, Luo Xinyu and Zhang Ziyu, who helped China secure a World Cup spot following last month's qualifiers.
The Women's World Cup will be held in Berlin from September 4 to 13, and the Asian Games will take place in Aichi-Nagoya between September 19 and October 4.
"With the two major events being tight on time, we are facing big challenges and tests," head coach Gong Luming said, adding that the roster was selected "based on the tasks of the Women's World Cup and the Asian Games, and with the long-term goal of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games in mind."
"We have a diversified training roster including college athletes and overseas-based players during a critical period of generational transition," he added.
The team plans to hold the training camp in Beijing from April to June, during which several international friendlies will be scheduled. The team will then travel to Australia and Europe for warm-up games before the World Cup and the Asian Games. ■
