CAIRO, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Egyptians celebrated on Monday the Sham el-Nessim, a traditional Egyptian festival marking the beginning of spring, which fell on April 13 this year.
The holiday, whose name means "smelling the breeze," dates back thousands of years to the time of the Pharaohs. It is a national holiday centered on joy, featuring outdoor picnics and specific foods, such as salted fish.
